Digital Planning has been accepted as an Industry Partner of the Royal Society.
The Royal Society Industry Fellowship Scheme connects companies with world-class post-Doctoral and Fellowship researchers.
Digital Planning submitted its application in order to sponsor Fellowship research.
It comes in addition to the Leicestershire-based company recruiting a PhD candidate to help the team advance its emerging AI tech innovation.
The company partnered with the University of Derby to bring an international researcher to the UK to develop the offer.
Under the Royal Society scheme, further candidates will be embedded within the Digital Planning team on 6 or 12-month industry placements, with academics and researchers gaining experience and mentoring in industry.
Fellowship boosts the transfer of science and tech knowledge between industry and academia in the UK.
It provides funding for researchers with a PhD (or equivalent) who hold a permanent position in a UK university, non-profit research organisation, or business.
Fellowship supports the researcher’s basic salary and research costs, encouraging collaboration and long-term development between academic and industrial partners.
Digital Planning, meanwhile, builds networks into academia and a route to tapping into a deep pool of leading-edge talent.
Ben Hutchings, Digital Planning’s Machine Learning Engineer, said: “This is a high quality scheme supported by leading industry partners including Rolls-Royce, Royal Society of Chemistry and the Society of Chemical Industry.
“We are very excited about being accepted and also about the opportunity to support the Royal Society’s commitment to fostering innovation and knowledge transfer between UK academia and industry.”
The Royal Society is the oldest continuously existing scientific academy in the world.
Its mission is to promote science and its benefits, recognise excellence in science, and provide independent scientific advice to policymakers.
It also supports outstanding scientific research through grants and fosters international collaboration.
