Situation.

East Midlands Chamber is the UK’s largest regional chamber of commerce. A key part of its work is in reflecting the position of its 4,000+ members in relation to emerging Government policy and announcements.

In order to achieve maximum impact in this regard, EMC needs to react quickly to breaking Government and economic updates. This enables the Chamber to responsively summarise its members’ interests in media statements and more.

Its challenge is that manual monitoring, drafting, and approvals often means delayed responses. This risks missing fast-moving news cycles.

The Chamber had a traditional approval process, requiring interventions from several officers who may not all have been available simultaneously. This risked inconsistent coverage and a high administrative burden on a comms team that could better deployed its skills on other content creation.

Brief.

Digital Planning worked as AI and automation partner with the Chamber, collaborating with officers and directors to map the live newsroom workflow and pinpoint where bottlenecks were likely to form.

We were then commissioned to build an AI‑powered editorial platform, connecting continuous monitoring of Government and economic newsfeeds with proprietary relevance‑ranking models, AI drafting, and structured approvals inside a single gated system.

The proprietary engine autonomously reads and prioritises policy‑relevant updates, generates draft releases against Chamber positions and policies, routing them for edit by officers.

A structured gateway process gives confidence to directors about amendments, archives final copies, and reshapes content for web, email, and social channels – while ensuring it is humans who retain ultimate editorial control throughout.

Results.

AI News Editor has given East Midlands Chamber a platform for faster, more consistent policy voice in regional and national business debates. It embeds AI directly into the newsroom workflow, rather than being bolted on as a separate tool.

By formalising an AI driven editorial engine, Digital Planning has turned a manual, high pressure process into an asset that scales, freeing human editors to focus on judgement, messaging and member relations.
