About the project.

Patterns and Moulds (P&M) is one of the leading privately owned mould makers in the UK, with the ability to create complex 3d patterns and moulds for clients utilising some of the most advanced hardware available.

From a mould no bigger than a pint glass to one the size of a ship’s hull, they can and have made them! Currently, the business utilises several tools, applications and services which are silo’d with little to no integration to manage the manufacturing process. These are used from initiation (quote) through to the final delivery (QA).

Challenge.

At any one time the business can be dealing with up to 40 simultaneous projects for multiple clients.

The business has already been structured on “departments” which focus on key areas of the manufacturing process, and these have been laid out across the site in a manner which allows the production to flow through in a logical sequence.

The issue the business has is down to bottlenecks within key areas, rapid resource changes or priorities on jobs moving around. This falls onto a handful of Project Managers to co-ordinate and try and maintain service operation with minimal downtime to business areas.

The challenge was to create a transformational roadmap to a digital solution without impacting business operation, and allowing a seamless migration from a paper-heavy process model.

Solution.

Engaging with Digital Planning, we ran a series of discovery workshops which allowed us to understand the complexity of the solutions in place across the business.

Undertaking a full autopsy on the business operating model allowed this to be documented as a workflow, and determine the key decision points in the delivery process. This also allowed the Client, with Digital Planning confirm where the pressure points were, focusing on staff, resources, skills and project types.

Digital Planning has developed a full ERP solution which can optimise the project delivery flow for the business accounting for all projects, sizes, critical dates etc and reoptimise the schedule across the factory floors to account for changes in requirements. As required, the forms have replicated the original paperforms, and can be printed out as a replica of them when needed. These can be cross-referenced with QR codes.

Result.

With full optimisation in place, the business has doubled its efficiency. Utilising the Metis AI Optimisation Engine Digital Planning has developed allows scenarios to be assessed and presented in seconds, rather than lengthy meetings and discussions.

With fully customisable dashboards in place, everyone within P&M can see what is required, and for when. All staff can see what tasks they need to be working on, and the timings they have to complete the work. A client portal is in place, allowing Customers to get real-time status reports on their projects and where they are in the production process.

This solution has provided P&M with a next gen, fully integrated lifecycle ERP solution to meet the growing demands of their commercial space.
